The Lab is designed to meet Stage 3 & 4 Science Syllabus outcomes. Students work in collaborative research teams, using a Scientific Investigation Form to undertake Fair Tests, guiding them to make predictions and record their methods, observations and results. It sets the scene for real water science investigations with sophisticated equipment, open student led challenges and strong links to local water issues and sustainable water use. About the ProjectThe Hands on H2O Water Lab is a new educational resource in the Northern Rivers region of NSW. It is a joint venture between Rous Water and Dorroughby Environment Education Centre, of the NSW Department of Education and Communities. The development and set of the Lab has been funded through a NSW Environmental Trust Grant. This website is funded through the NRMA Insurance Community Grants Program. Ongoing planning, coordination and expenses will be met by Dorroughby Environmental Education Centre with support from Rous Water. Educators from both organisations will staff the Water Lab, depending on participant numbers. Rous Water staff will also open the Water Lab to the community during advertised weekends or school holiday days.
Situated at Dorroughby Environmental Education Centre the Water Lab sets the scene for real water science investigations with sophisticated equipment, open student led challenges and strong links to local water issues and sustainable water use. It is designed to meet the needs of the Science Syllabus e.g. inquiry based learning, science as a human endeavour and curriculum outcomes of Stage 3 & 4. Students work in collaborative research teams, using a Scientific Investigation Form to undertake Fair Tests, guiding them to make predictions and record their methods, observations and results.
Schools are invited to book the Water Lab for a full or half day and it can be incorporated into a camp or full day program with other Dorroughby Environmental Education Centre Programs. For all inquiries please refer to the booking page in this website.
